Francysk Skaryna bust unveiled in Chisinau. Ceremony attended by Minister Monica Babuc
Minister of Education, Culture and Research, Monica Babuc, participated along with her Belarus counterpart, Yuri Bondar, who is currently paying an official visit to Moldova, at the unveiling of Francysk Skaryna's bust, one of the greatest Belarusian humanist, physician and translator, located at the intersection of Alexei Mateevici and Mitropolit Gavriil Bănulescu-Bodoni streets, Chisinau.
In her message, Minister Monica Babuc mentioned that the bust of Francysk Skaryna, speaks of Moldova's adherence to international values and our country's wish to follow examples. The official also mentioned that this event contributes to strengthening the cultural ties between Republic of Moldova and Republic of Belarus.
The decision to create the bust of Francysk Skaryna, was taken during the Government's session from July 5 2017, at the suggestion of Ministry of Education, Culture and Research, to eternize his memory and to mark 500 years since the first book was published in Belarusian.
The bust of Francysk Skaryna was created in Republic of Belarus, based on a competition, organized by Culture Ministry of Belarus and later installed in the Republic of Moldova according to a project supervised by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research. All expenses for the creation and installation of the bust were bore by Republic of Belarus and donations.
Francysk Skaryna was among the greatest Belarusian humanist from the second half of the 16th century, physician, translator and one of the first book printers in Eastern Europe.
