Pavel Filip: For the first time in 25 years, Moldova will control all its borders
Prime Minister Pavel Filip paid a visit today to Palanca Customs, that will be inaugurated by the end of this year, to see the construction site. The crossing point, placed on the territory of Republic of Moldova, which will be modernized with the support of the European Union, will perform joint border control with Ukraine. Prime Minister highlighted this crossing point's importance.
"Much effort was already made. This is not a simple Custom, but a symbol of EU, as it will offer EU quality border control. The biggest comfort will be the reduced time in waiting lines. The number of lanes will also increase.
Such a project is a first for Moldova and we are grateful to our partners from Kiev that Republic of Moldova will fully control all its borders. For the first time in 25 years, joint border control will be performed at borders with Transnistria. We will be able to enjoy this crossing point in the near future" Pavel Filip said.
At the same time, EU Ambassador to Republic of Moldova, Peter Michalko declared that once Planca Customs will open, the amount of time required to cross the borders will be reduced by 20%, while the number of people that will be able to cross the borders will increase by two times.
"Once Planca Customs will be open for the public, the amount of waiting time will lessen by 20%, while the amount of people who will be able to cross the border will increase by two times, from 600 000 to 1 200 000. This project's implementation will offer better cooperation between the institutions of both countries responsible for customs and sanitary control, the information exchange will become faster and more secure, while transparency will increase, the costs both countries bear will also lessen" Peter Michalko declared.
