Gaudeamus cinema from Capital is being demolished
Gaudeamus cinema located on Vasile Alecsandri street, Chisinau, is being demolished. Workers have already taken down the roof and in a few days there will be no trace left of the building.
According to the Capital's chief architect, Sergiu Borozan, the works are legal, because the movie theater's owner received the needed authorization back in 2016.
"A new center will be build in its place. Perhaps a hotel or lodging. It is possible that the first floors will be a leisure center for citizens" Sergiu Borozan explained.
Despite the demolition authorization being signed two years ago, workers immediately hid at the sight of cameras.
They refused to offer information, including the man giving them instructions.
Nearby residents are displeased by the fact that the cinema is being demolished. Some fondly remember visiting it.
"It was pleasant to go and watch a movie there."
"There were no TVs or internet, we had to go to the movie theater."
"It is a beautiful building in the city's heart, they should not take it down."
Gaudeamus cinema was build in the 50s.
