United States Embassy in Moldova to build new office. James Pettit promises transparency and fairness in land acquisition process
The land purchase transaction for the construction of new office of United States Embassy in Moldova will be correct and transparent. The assurances were made by Ambassador James Pettit. According to the official, the current building, which dates back to the 19th century, is old and small, forcing staff members to work in offices placed in different regions of the Capital.
"The process is being negotiated, but it will be 100% transparent and open. I know that rumors are being stirred of it being an incorrect transaction, but I assure you that when we will purchase the land we will pay appropriate money because it is a commercial market issue" United States Ambassador to Moldova, James Pettit said.
United States Ambassador to Moldova also declared that soon, an Agreement will be signed with authorities from Chisinau for the acquisition of the land where the new office will be build. The decision will be a public one. As it will be build in the Capital's heart, the building will respect all the architectural requirements established by the legislation.
"We need a bigger building that will reflect the developed relations we have with Republic of Moldova. We will purchase an available land and, unfortunately, I noticed that here, in the City's heart, there are many abandoned sites" Ambassador James Pettit said.
According to a project offered for public debates, the new office will be build on the land of the Republican Stadium. At the moment, the lot has a surface of over five hectares, is a public property and is in ruins. The Embassy of the United States to Moldova opened 26 years ago.
