More women in politics! Andrian Candu: A woman can be a political leader
Republic of Moldova registered significant progresses in gender equality laws to offer women a fair chance to be promoted in politics and find employment in leadership positions. The subject was discussed today, during an international conference that took place in Chisinau at the initiative of PDM women's organization. The event was attended by representatives of Social Democratic Party from five countries, who shared their experience in the field.
The conference was organized aiming to encourage women to be more active in politics and decision-making process.
"We have many women implicated in administrating our state, district, women implicated in the Parliament, in the Government and their potential brings results, but it does not mean that we must stop here" head of PDM women's organization, Valentina Buliga said.
President of Şoldăneşti district, Svetlana Rotundu, is among the women that learned to face men, working for nearly 30 years in public administration.
"My time is well organized. It allowed me to also implicate in politics" Svetlana Rotundu said.
President of Moldovan Parliament, Andrian Candu, mentioned that there are cases when women are more responsible then men.
"A stereotype that still exists in some societies, that a woman is only a mother and wife, in Republic of Moldova is being slowly forgotten. A woman can be a political leader, a woman means a member of a responsible team" Andrian Candu said.
This idea was also supported by representatives of multiple European countries.
"With all due respect to the two men present here today, I believe that we, women, pay attention to some problems that men tend to ignore" Irina Gort, president of the PSD Women's Organization in Sweden said.
Changes to the law, aiming to offer financial support to parties that promote women were appreciated.
"Things are improving. A crucial point is that women that received positions in the Parliament will be able to truly decide, along with men, what are the political priorities" Sonja Locar, president of the PSD Women's Organization in Sweden said.
Important success at the chapter of gender equality laws were also registered in neighbor countries.
"Districts with the best results where those led by an equal amount of men and women" Manuela Catrina, vice-president of PSD Women's Organization in Romania said.
"Until last year, in Ukraine, women were forbidden from 450 types of jobs. Among them counted subway operator, firefighters. Now, European values won and women have the right to gain any job they wish" Irina Suslova, deputy of Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine said.
The conference was attended by over a hundred women from Moldova, as well as other states.
