Deputy Speaker Valeriu Ghileţchi made a documentary visit to Macedonia as co-rapporteur of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe in the period 18-20 June. The visit of the Moldovan MP coincided with the signing of the Agreement with Greece on the new name of the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia.
During the visit, Valeriu Ghileţchi held talks with Prime Minister Zoran Zaev and Deputy Foreign Minister Andrej Zhernovski, as well as with members of the Constitutional Court, the Supreme Council of Magistrates, the Prosecutors' Council, media representatives and political party leaders, and accredited ambassadors in Macedonia.
"Macedonia is similar to Moldova in many respects, and the success and example of the Macedonian authorities is also an encouragement for our country, in particular, in the efforts we make in the process of European integration. We see in the northern Macedonian region that what seemed impossible a year ago became possible today thanks to the domestic political will and the support of the foreign partners," Valeriu Ghileţchi said.
Deputy Speaker of Parliament in Chisinau together with his colleague Lise Christoffersen documented in Skopje recent developments in Macedonia, paying particular attention to the judiciary as well as to the general stage regarding the commitments and obligations of the Council of Europe.
