Moldova might have to pay $50M to Ukrainian company Energoalliance
According to a decision of US court on August 23, Moldova might need to pay a debt of $50M to Ukrainian company Energoalliance, which apparently has connection with Veaceslav Platon or CIS no.1 raider.
This imposing amount represents a bill for electricity, since 1999.
The Sandu Government has allocated $59,000 to pay the legal services to an American company, which represents Moldovan interests in this process in the USA. The court decision of August 23, issued in the United States, has already been challenged by Chisinau.
During that period, the Republic of Moldova purchased energy from Ukraine through an offshore company registered in the British Virgin Islands. As a result of this collaboration, a debt of nearly $ 11 million was accumulated. Subsequently, the right to repay the alleged debt was assigned to the company Energoalliance.
In 2010, the Commercial Arbitration Tribunal of Paris ruled that our country must pay more than $ 46 million, an amount that includes actual debt, interest on arrears and court costs. During this time, the authorities in Chisinau challenged the court decisions issued by the foreign courts.
Three years later, Energoalliance merged with the Ukrainian company Komstroy, thus becoming legal successors. In a Rise Moldova investigation, which refers to an informative note of the Moldovan Supreme Court of Justice, Energoalliance played an important role in the Russian Laundromat scheme.
Specifically, it guaranteed the payment of a $ 30 million debt that the British offshore company Valemont Properties Ltd had against another offshore - Westburn Enterprises Ltd, both of which are covered by the money laundering scheme.
Chisinau has challenged the court decision of August 23 issued in the US. The alliance ACUM-PSRM has presented to citizens new evidence of their incompetence, according to Democratic Party.
On a Facebook post, party mentioned that former government won this case and wondered what happened to this actual executive. It's simply the lack of competence or are there other interests including financial ones? What's next?
According to PDM, citizens of the country have expected a better life, but for now they receive increased taxes and fees, released criminals.
