IMF to back Moldova in implementing reforms
Prime Minister Ion Chicu met today with the head of the mission of the International Monetary Fund for Moldova, Ruben Atoyan, to set priorities for future cooperation.
The prime minister appreciated the importance of IMF support for our country and expressed the openness in order to identify new ways to extend the cooperation between the Government of the Republic of Moldova and the IMF, through new programs, actions, as well as technical assistance projects.
The officials exchanged constructive opinions regarding the state of the national economy at present, the plans for attracting investments in Moldova and the prospects for GDP growth.
The head of the mission, Ruben Atoyan said that the IMF is ready to continue supporting the Republic of Moldova in the process of implementing reforms, once the Government assumes these commitments, specifying that the Executive's progress in implementing reforms in the financial and fiscal sector, as well as in the investigation of bank fraud.
The parties also agreed on the necessary steps for the extension of the program with the IMF, which expires in March 2020. In this regard, a delegation of the International Monetary Fund will have a visit to the Republic of Moldova during January-February 2020.
