Former PM Vlad Filat has been released from prison, confirmed one of his lawyers and the prison spokesman Oleg Pantea.

According to the representatives of prison, the release took place at 14:00. 

According to Filat's lawyer, he was released after serving two-thirds of the sentence and was released ahead of time. The decision was taken today by the Chisinau court, based in the Ciocana district. 

In August, the punishment of the former prime minister, Vlad Filat was reduced by 685 days, due to the conditions of detention, based on a decision of the European Court of Human Rights.

Vlad Filat has been noticed to join Telegram. 

Filat, who was Moldova's prime minister in 2009-2013, was arrested in mid-October, 2015 and charged with taking bribes in a $1 billion bank-fraud case. 

He was jailed in 2016 on corruption charges.
