91% of catering facilities comply with smoking ban
Experts of the Center for policy and research in the field of health believe that about 91% of catering in Chisinau, Balti and Cahul respect the law banning smoking in premises, Infotag reports.
Center Coordinator Ghennadie Turcanu said at Monday's press conference that in two-month study experts visited 326 public caterings - restaurants, cafes, and bars at lunchtime and evening hours, when many people come to such places.
Expert Radion Gavriloi noted that 97% of places have necessary pointers banning smoking indoors, and 99% comply with the law banning advertising of tobacco products.
As for the educational and medical institutions, 100% of them in Chisinau, Balti and Cahul comply with the law on tobacco control: no violation has been registered there.
"Experts and volunteers analyzed 70 educational institutions (all state universities, majority of vocational schools and 14 lyceums) and 72 medical institutions in three cities. In 72% of hospitals and 63% of educational institutions have the sign banning smoking. 98% of such institutions comply with the law on tobacco control and do not have smoking places", said center expert Cristina Ursoi.
According to her, smoking was registered on the territory of 11 educational institutions and in 2 hospitals.
This is the second research made by the Center for policy and research in the field of healthcare devoted to the observance of the law on tobacco control in public catering. The first one was made from September through November 2016; 92% of restaurants and bars received a positive assessment on compliance with the law.
