A 27-year-old woman inherited 1 million euros after the death of the rich and old Italian she cared for in the last years. The Italian family, however, believed this was a scam and decided to sue the young Moldovan.
Tatiana Crihan, a 27-year-old Moldovan woman, took care of Guido Carlo Corni, a rich dentist from Genoa, in the last years of his life. He died in 2015, at the age of 91, leaving the woman a legacy of 1 million euros, reports the local press.
Realizing that the main beneficiary of the old man's fortune was the former caretaker, the family filed a complaint with the authorities against her, accusing her of fraud.
According to the Italian family, the old man was not in full mental faculties in the last period of his life which the Moldovan woman took advantage and asked him to sign two life insurance policies for the amount of 1 million euros.
The investigation found that a nephew of the old man was initially transferred as a beneficiary in those policies. He suddenly changed his mind two days later and changed the name of beneficiary.
As the investigators did not find any evidence to support the family's allegations, the case was closed earlier this year. The old man's nephew died this month, and now his wife is the one who filed a new lawsuit against the woman who inherited the million euros.
The lawyers also demanded compensation from the institution that concluded the policies, accusing it of not checking the old man's mental health at the time of issuing the documents.
