Alexandru Jizdan's reaction to the murder from Hânceşti
Minister of Internal Affairs, Alexandru Jizdan, declared that everyone is equal before the law, including police officers. The law also states in which cases an officer can use a firearm.
"Everyone is equal before the law, including law enforcement. The law also states when and where officers can use a firearm. What happened last evening, it's a tragedy, but it does not states that the reform is a failure, but shows that the system has people who failed, people who create grave consequences. It is not for me to speak of this case, but for the Prosecutors who are investigating and will offer all details.
I solely wish to say: Police has over 9 000 employees all over the country, they all have at their disposal special means, and how else, if not though each officer's own attitude, responsibility and fairness, can we ensure that such cases will not take place?! I ask those who love to share their thoughts and opinions on Facebook, will firing some people really ensure that similar cases will not repeat themselves? Is this what we do, run away? Hide from the reality of what is happening in Republic of Moldova? No, this is not a solution and stop using a family's tragedy to create a link to everything that happens on a national level.
If the policeman from Hîncești committed a mistake, if he illegally used the firearm, it is him who must take responsibility, while his colleagues must get back to their activity, to their roles and missions as law enforcement. We must not confuse our duty with desires, remember you oaths.
I express condolences to the family of the deceased young man. I trust and hope that competent bodies will complete their mission and act in accordance with the law, in case of the people that were responsible for enforcing it, the harsher the better" Alexandru Jizdan said.
