Andrian Candu participated in CICDE open talks
Authorities are creating a project offering equal chances to succeed for all citizens, but young people have to implicate and be active to profit from the existing opportunities, declared President of Moldovan Parliament, Andrian Candu, at the opening of the ”CICDE open talks: Democrația se învață – abordări inovative” (Democracy can be learned - innovative views) conference.
President of Moldova Parliament has spoke with 150 young people, students, pupils and teachers. He encouraged them to implicate in decisive processes, using existing mechanisms, including petitions, participate in public debates of projects, internships in the Parliament, associating with other active citizens to promote initiatives, take part in activities organized by civil societies.
Present at the event, Dafina Gercheva, UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative for the Republic of Moldova, mentioned that active participation of citizens cannot happen overnight, once people reach the age they are allowed to vote.
This is learned by gaining daily experience, analyzing opportunities at hand and participate in taking decisions, listening to other opinions and assuming certain consequences. This is the only way to train citizens to make decisions.
During the conference, eight young people, students, postgraduates and teachers, have shared their ideas and experience in the electoral fiend and motivated participants to implicate more and be more active, making themselves an example.
The conference was organized by center for continuous electoral training (CICDE) in partnership with Republic of Moldova's Parliament and Central Electoral Commission, with the support of "Consolidating Democracy in Moldova through transparent and inclusive elections" implemented by PNUD, with financial support from USAID and Matra Program of Embassy of the Netherlands and is part of CICDE's information electoral campaign "Participate! Learn! Decide!"
