Andrian Candu: The theft in the banking system amounts to 600 MILLION DOLLARS. Kroll has MONEY RECOVERY STRATEGY
Kroll and Steptoe and Johnson representatives have presented an update on the progress of the investigation for recovering fraudulent assets in a meeting in Chisinau. The representatives of the Moldovan authorities have agreed to provide assistance and the political support in communication with some countries where an additional disclosure procedure is needed. The announcement was made by PS Andrian Candu.

Following a meeting with Kroll representatives, Candu said the report presented by the company's representatives showed that the theft from BEM, Social Bank and Unibank amounts to 600 million dollars.
"Kroll representatives have provided an updated information on the banking system theft. For further information, when we talk about the theft, we are talking abut 600 million dollars, not a billion. Kroll has also provided a strategy of recovery of assets, in certain stages, which are now under consideration. The entire process will last up to three years, depending on the criminal and civil processes" , said the head of the legislature.
According to Candu, there are three sources of money fraud recovery.
"The first source would be the money coming from the sale of the assets of those three banks. The second source would be the assets to be sold of criminal convicts in the case. The third source are the money on foreign accounts".
Publika.MD recalls that Kroll and Steptoe and Johnson representatives have presented an update on the progress of the investigation for recovering fraudulent assets in a meeting in Chisinau, organized at the initiative of the Parliament Speaker, Prime Minister and Governor of the National Bank.
The purpose of the meeting was to present the investigation findings to date and the proposed strategy for the recovery of the stolen funds in the estimated amount of 600 mln USD.
During the meeting, parties have discussed on further legal action, which will be undertaken on behalf of the Moldovan Government for recovering the stolen assets. The representatives of the Moldovan authorities have agreed to provide assistance and the political support in communication with some countries where an additional disclosure procedure is needed.
