BAC exams could be canceled due to coronavirus
This year's BAC exams will be canceled due to the coronavirus outbreak. The Government has endorsed a bill in this regard.
"Scenario 4 is considered the most realistic and is our decision. It provides for the cancellation of BAC exams and the issuance of diplomas based on annual grade point average in high school. The advantages are the elimination of risks of COVID-19 contamination, and the diploma will have the same legal value for higher education institutions in the country and abroad, in case of issuing an appropriate decision of the Parliament. The date of obtaining the diploma will not exceed July 5, 2020 ", mentioned Igor Șarov.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Education also listed the disadvantages of this scenario: "Well-prepared students could be disadvantaged compared to students with less knowledge, but with the same backgrounds."
We mention that Minister Șarov proposed three other scenarios for taking the exams, but which would be risky for students and teachers in the context of the pandemic:
"Scenario 1- taking the BAC exams in the existing centers, equipped with video monitoring;
Scenario 2- taking the Baccalaureate exams in the educational institutions of origin,
Scenario 3- taking the BAC online, but it is impossible to identify the person who takes the exam in front of the computer and lacks specialized software for this exercise.
Scenarios 1-3 would be risky commitments, especially we are talking about 17,459 candidates who should pass all the tests of this exam in several days".
This year, about 17,500 candidates will take the BAC exams.
