Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko on official visit to Moldova
Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko, known for his authoritarian tendencies, has came with a message to the authorities in Chisinau.
The leader of Minsk said that Moldova needs to enrich its relations with both the West and the Eastern countries.
Lukashenko said he wants closer cooperation with Moldova.
"Moldova produces everything Belarus needs. We do not have these things," said Aleksandr Lukashenko, the president of Belarus.
"Belarus is the top trading partner of Moldova. We have about 90 joint ventures, Belarus is the Moldova' biggest wine importer", said President of Moldova, Igor Dodon.
Lukashenko called on politicians in Chisinau for consensus.
"Half of the citizens of Moldova want to be closer to the European Union and the others turn to Russia and Belarus. We have to see the good on both sides and try to bring home what we need," said Aleksandr Lukashenko, the president of Belarus.
Tomorrow, Lukashenko will visit Criuleni district to sow corn. When Dodon was asked if the press would also attend the event, Lukashenko gave an ironic response to rumors in his country.
Aleksandr Lukashenko will have a meeting with Prime Minister Pavel Filip on Thursday. The Moldova - Belarus Economic Forum will also take place in Chisinau.
The event will discuss ways to develop trade relations between the two countries. Also there will be an exhibition of goods produced in Belarus.
