The Zoo from the Capital has reopened its gate for guests. Hundreds of people stood in line today to purchase a ticket. Many claim that since it was a day off, they used the chance to see the baby crocodile, as well as other animals.
The zoo's administration claims that they received so many visitors four years ago, when camels were brought in.
For a ticket, people had to stand in line for over 10 minutes under the sun. Everyone was interested in seeing the crocodile, which was kept away from wondering eyes for the past 40 years.
"We have been standing here for 10 minutes already."
"We do not come here often, but usually there are less people."
Some visitors declared that they did not expected to see so many people, while others were even ready to give up, due to the long waiting line.
"Truth to be told we were ready to turn back and go home, but it was worth standing in line."
The two booths from the entrance could barely face the number of people, having sold tickets worth 50 000 lei before lunch time.
The Zoo's administration claims that they expect nearly 15 000 visitors by the end of the day. All the collected money will be invested in caring for the animals. The Zoo's deputy director, Sergiu Pînzaru declared his hopes to beat the record established a few years ago, when 100 000 lei were collected in a day only by selling tickets.
"I know that many people came and then left, because the small children could not stand in line for so long" Sergiu Pânzaru said.
The Zoo's deputy director said in the in the following days people will also have the chance to see an anaconda, that was previously kept separately as there was no fitting cage.
After touring the Zoo people claim that they were surprised by all the changes made after the repair works.
"It looks amazing, better then the last time I was here."
"You can see that people invest in the Zoo."
The Zoo was reopened yesterday after a week of repair works. During that time, all the asphalt was rehabilitated, the animal's cages were repaired and 1 500 flowers were planted. Such works were last performed 15 years ago. For those works, the Zoo has spend nearly 2 million lei.
The administration claims that the Zoo will further be expended by another 14 hectares, so far only access paths were made to the new territory. Following, exotic animals will be displayed there, with multiple playground being build for children. The project is worth 5 million Euro.
