Car drivers registered in other countries to be exempted from road tax
Owners of vehicles registered in foreign countries with which Moldova has bilateral agreements will be exempt from fees for the use of national roads. But the exemption will not apply to vehicles with registration numbers in states that do not comply with the agreements reached. A decision to this effect was taken at a cabinet meeting.
Meanwhile, National Road tax was reduced by 30-per-cent for foreign vehicles (buses and trucks). It is estimated that in this way transit flow will increase, and the state will compensate for any losses.
Road tax will be five times higher in vehicles with a maximum weight or dimensions exceed the limits. That amendment will bring accumulations to the state budget amounting to about 50 million lei, money that will be used for development and maintenance of road infrastructure.
Currently, National Road tax does not apply to vehicles registered in countries with which Moldova has bilateral and multilateral agreements on road transport, which involve mutual exemption of any tax.
