Carpet of Desire Fair exhibited the most beautiful carpets and weaving traditions
The most beautiful carpets and popular weaving traditions were presented at the Carpet of the Desire (Covorul Dorului) Fair. Works from different regions of the country were exhibited at the event.
Some were hand-made over 100 years ago, while others are currently being built by the major factories in the country.
"Our carpets are distinguished by the fact that they are authentic. These are carpets decorated with bird symbolizing freedom," said Ecaterina Popescu, founder of the Crafts Rustic Art.
Traditions are preserved by the younger generation.
"I was inspired by my mother. I found it really interesting", said a little girl.
Representatives of ethnic minorities have also praised their traditions.
"Previously, such carpets were woven by four or five people, because there are many flowers. Weaving a carpet takes a month, " said Ana Belcivicen, head of the ensemble, Tvardita.
Visitors say they learned a lot about our traditions.
"I feel like at home because these carpets remind me of my grandparents' house".
Several officials, including the Minister of Education, Culture and Research, Monica Babuc, attended the fair. She wore a national costume.
It is a very beautiful, very large event. Besides being acquainted with the old bark, we also had a special performance," said Monica Babuc, Minister of Education, Culture and Research.
"Every year we wait for these events, because we enjoy such beauty," said Daniel Ioniţă, Romania's ambassador to Moldova.
In December 2016, the traditional carpeting techniques in Romania and the Republic of Moldova were included in the UNESCO cultural heritage. The national fair Carpet of Dor has been the fourth edition.
