Chisinau businessman detained for power abuse - monopoly on fruit export to Russia
A businessman from the Capital was detained by anti-corruption officers and prosecutors, being targeted in a power abuse file. The man is suspected that, plotting with the ANSA Chisinau Division, he would have instituted a monopoly on the export of fruit and vegetables to the Russian Federation.
According to the preliminary data of the investigation, the administrator of the SRL would have bribed public persons in order to obtain the phytosanitary certificates necessary for the export of vegetable products to Russia, without the goods being subjected to the necessary controls. At the same time, for some money, the economic agent acted as an intermediary in issuing certificates to other agricultural producers.
Following the inspections, the stamp and facsimile of the applicant for phytosanitary certificates, as well as private electronic letters, were found and extracted at the ANSA regarding how the certificates were issued in the absence of legal checks on the unauthorized warehouse. At the residence and headquarters of the economic agent were found documents prepared for payment to agricultural producers, so that they could export, but also private correspondence with employees of ANSA and the Customs Service.
The agent was detained for 72 hours. As far as ANSA employees are concerned, investigations continue.
A criminal case of abuse of service has been started on this case. Suspects risk from 2 to 6 years of imprisonment or a fine of 1,350 to 2,350 conventional units, in both cases depriving them of the right to occupy certain positions or to practice certain activities for a period from 5 to 10 years.
