Constitution Day: Moldova marks 24 years since Supreme Law adoption

Moldova celebrates the Constitution Day. Today, 24 years have elapsed since the adoption of the Supreme Law of the country, which entered into force on 27 August 1994.
So far, the Constitution has undergone several changes. That was in 2013, when Article 111 on the legal status of Gagauz Autonomy was amended. Another change took place in 2006, the death penalty was lifted. The last amendment to the Constitution was made on March 4, 2016, in Article 78 when the president of the country was elected by direct vote of citizens.
The Constitution of the Republic of Moldova has been repeatedly the subject of disputes in society. Most discussions were generated by Article 13, which refers to the state language.
