Contest started to choose private partner for Arena Chisinau construction
Education Ministry has 30 days to organize and run the private partner selection contest for the Arena Chisinau project.
This is stipulated in the Government Decision on the approval of the objectives and conditions of the public-private partnership for the design and construction of the multi-function arena. The document was published today in the Official Gazette.
According to Education Minister Monica Babuc, a special commission has already been set up to select the economic agent responsible for the project.
"Following the discussions, it was established that for the convenience and professionalism of the committee, this would be composed of 13 members, who will be delegated by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research, the Ministry of Economy and Infrastructure, the Ministry Justice, Parliament, and the Public Property Agency, "said Monica Babuc, Minister of Education, Culture and Research.
Arena Chisinau will be built on a land of almost 70 hectares, which is near Stauceni village in Chisinau. According to the project, the sports complex will have a capacity of more than 4000 seats and will host international cultural and sporting events, as well as conferences, exhibitions or concerts.
"This complex gives us the opportunity to host a lot of international events. I have seen people who criticize this project. They don't have arguments and it's not right. You should discuss with with art experts before criticizing", said Nicolae Juravschi, president of the National Olympic and Sport Committee.
After signing the contract, the private partner will have one year to complete the construction of the arena.
Besides the land, the state will contribute to the complex with 202 million lei, from state budgets for 2018 and 2019.
