Over 20,000 illegal petards have been uncovered by mobile customs officers at a store in Chisinau. They have opened an investigative case against the shopkeeper, a 37-year-old man.

The petards were made in China and their value is assessed to be about $4,000.

The shopkeeper has nor authorization to import, neither to sell the firecrackers.

Only licensed companies enjoy the right to import and to sell pyrotechnical products in Moldova, but still they are largely smuggled.
