Representatives of the Defense Ministry are in Brussels, Belgium, on June 5th and 6th, where they participate in the Meeting of the Contact Persons on the Defense Capacity Building  Initiative (DCBI). 

The head of the Defense Policy and Defense Planning Directorate, Col. Gheorghe Oarza, and the Head of the Defense Ministry's Transformation Department, Aurel Fondos, present the report on the current state and the latest developments in the implementation of the DCB assistance package and the development of defense capacity of the Republic of Moldova.

According to Colonel Oarza, the activity aims at evaluating, monitoring and sharing the experience gained from the DCBI processes in the past 5 years, informing participants about the latest achievements in implementing the strategic objectives of defense sector development, identifying aspects of bilateral co-operation between NATO member states and DCBI assistance beneficiary states, and the possibilities of providing additional assistance.

The quoted source said that by participating in the meeting, the Ministry of Defense wants to deepen its cooperation with the strategic development partners and to exchange experience to ensure the increase of the National Army's defense capabilities.

Note that the Republic of Moldova was accepted in June 2015 by the North Atlantic Alliance as part of the DCBI, the Ministry of Defense being designated as the institution responsible for its implementation.

The DCBI aims at strengthening the defense capability of the Republic of Moldova and involves a two-phase assistance package.

In the first phase, the Ministry of Defense worked with the international experts delegated by the Alliance to provide support and advice in the development of policy papers.

The first phase ended with the approval of strategic documents in the field of defense planning.

On October 22, 2018, the launch of the project Strengthening Capabilities in the Military Medicine project was launched in the second phase of the DCBI, which includes several areas of assistance, including technical assistance, offered to the Republic of Moldova through bilateral relations initiated or to be initiated between our country and the allied and partner states.
