Defense Minister Eugen Sturza met with EU Ambassador to Moldova, Peter Michalko
Defense Minister Eugen Sturza has met today with EU Ambassador to Moldova, Peter Michalko.
The two officials spoke of reforms initiated by Defense Ministry on building a standing army, regional security, as well as perspective to cooperate with EU in the defense area.
Eugen Sturza informed the EU official of the Defense Ministry's objectives for this year, including adjusting and approving strategic documents - National Defense and Military Strategies, standing army, as well as consolidating military bilateral relations with EU member states.
Defense Minister spoke of the two major initiatives of EU in terms of defense - Capacity Building for Security and Development – CBSD and Permanent Structured Cooperation - PESCO, expressing his hope that those will facilitate integration in the defense area of our country and European community.
In his turn, Michalko appreciated Republic of Moldova's interest to participate in EU peacekeeping operations. The official also added that EU is open to support the reforms initiated by the Defense Ministry to modernize the defense sector.
