Discriminatory words 'handicapați' replaced in Moldovan Constitution

The "handicapați" and "handicapate" (disabled) will be replaced in the Supreme Law with the word "with disabilities". In this respect, the Executive has approved today in the Government meeting, the opinion regarding the amendment of art. 50 and art. 51 of the Constitution of the Republic of Moldova.
With the implementation of these changes, the provisions of the Constitution will be adjusted to international and national legislation already adapted, the commitment assumed by ratification of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, which establishes a new paradigm of disability, marking the transition from the medical model to the social one, based on inclusion.
Changes and additions to several normative acts in various fields have been approved before, eliminating discriminatory terminology in accordance with international regulations that ensure the full and equal protection and exercise by all persons with disabilities of human rights and fundamental freedoms, as well as promote respect for their dignity.
