Moldovans who get infected with COVID-19 on the day of the presidential election can exercise their right to vote either at home if they are in isolation, or at the hospital if they are treated.
To do this, citizens must request a mobile ballot box. The statement was made by the chairman of the Central Electoral Commission, Dorin Cimil.
"We also take into account the situations in which these people will be both at home and in hospitals. The right to vote shall not be restricted for the sole reason that the person concerned is ill with COVID", said Dorin Cimil.
In order to be able to vote with a mobile ballot box, Moldovans diagnosed with COVID-19 will have to notify the polling stations in advance, by sending a request. This can be done two weeks before the election and even on election day, but no later than 15:00. It is not yet clear how many officials will be involved in this process.
"The CEC is ready to assess the number of people who will request a mobile ballot box at the time of voting. We believe that the number of officials set to carry the mobile ballot box will be enough to cope with this exercise."
Electoral officials must be equipped with masks, gloves and special suits. The mobile urn and equipment will be disinfected each time it is used. According to an instruction prepared by the authorities, on the day of the presidential election, each polling station must be equipped with disinfectant, and at the entrance to the room will be installed on the floor a sponge with disinfectant solution. Before entering the section, the temperature of each voter will be measured. Those who will have more than 37 degrees will not have access. At the same time, a small number of people will be able to be inside at the same time. For example, if there are two polling stations, then only two voters will be able to be present. Moldovans will be urged to come with their own pen, and in order to avoid contact with the electoral official, voters will present to him, from a distance, the act on the basis of which they exercise their right to vote. At the same time, the polling station will be disinfected every three hours.
