EU lauds Moldova's achievements and disburses money for budget support
The EU has provided budget support assistance to the Republic of Moldova. The financing will support Economic Stimulation in Rural Areas (ESRA), the European Neighbourhood Programme for Agriculture and Rural Development (ENPARD), the Public Finance Policy Reform programme, and vocational education training. The Government of the Republic of Moldova has met the conditions and achieved some of the results linked to these four budget support programmes.
The Public Finance Policy Reform programme contributed to the strengthening of fiscal governance, initiating a reform of public accounting, enhancing debt management and supporting medium term budgetary planning. Progress was also made in improving the quality of the work of the Court of Accounts as the Supreme Audit Institution.
The achievements in ESRA include notably the construction of two business incubators and the creation of almost 200 new businesses and more than 1100 new jobs, as well as support to national initiatives for youth or PARE 1+1 (a programme to stimulate investments from remittances).
The achievements in the Agriculture and Rural Development sector relate to modernisation of livestock farms and food establishments in line with EU quality and safety requirements.
The EU also supports the Vocational Education Training system in building up-to-date VET teaching methods based more on practice and less on theory, to better match the local labour market needs.
A budget of EUR 35.3 million has been allocated for this support assistance to Moldova.
