EU officials: Republic of Moldova registered remarkable progress in implementing the Association Agreement
High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Federica Mogherini and European Commissioner for European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations, Johannes Hahn believe that Republic of Moldova registered remarkable progresses in implementing the EU Association Agreement. The two officials held a joint press conference in Brussels, along with Prime Minister Pavel Filip. Prime Minister claimed that European partners assured that Moldova will continue receiving support from EU.
"I wish to say that we are encouraged by EU's clear commitment to continue offering Moldova support in various areas. It is important that after the general elections, the Association Agreement will remain the Government's priority" Pavel Filip declared.
Pavel Filip spoke of reforms, especially those from the justice system, assuring that it will be seen through. In her turn, Federica Mogherini congratulated Moldova's Government on the progresses with Transnistria, reconfirming EU's support.
"The latest developments in negotiations with Transnistria will bring various benefits to people living on both banks on Dniester. EU continues to support a peaceful solution to this problem" Federica Mogherini mentioned.
Federica Mogherini also encouraged Chisinau to continue implementing reforms, promising that EU will offer all the necessary support for economic and social projects that will improve the standard of living of the citizens.
"EU will remain a strong partner of Moldova, supporting all its actions" the EU official declared.
Johannes Hahn has also praised Moldova. The official mentioned that EU is ready to offer the first tranche of the macro-financial assistance, only after another two conditions will be met. If it will happen by the end of May, the money will be available in June.
"The Government has done an incredible work. It implemented reforms that perhaps are not supported by all people, but will benefit to the country's European future" Johannes Hahn said.
Questioned if Johannes Hahn will visit our country, the official replied: "I usually visit countries that face major problems, so it is a good sign that I am not in Moldova. If we speak of our relations, then they are very good. For this reason I will try to find time to visit Moldova."
Today at Brussels took place the 4th meeting of the Association Council EU - Republic of Moldova. Within the event were analyzed justice reform, measures taken to combat corruption, to improve business environment and to develop civil societies.
