Eugen Sturza held meeting with Odd Egil Pedersen, general NATO major
Today, the Defense Minister, Eugen Sturza met with deputy chief of staff of the Allied Forces Allied Command Europe (SHAPE) headquarters, General Major Odd Egil Pedersen, for the first time in Moldova.
The agenda of the talks covered topics related to the Republic of Moldova's cooperation with the North Atlantic Alliance on the defense dimension and the assistance provided by Allied countries in the context of the development and modernization of the National Army.
In this respect, the Minister of Defense thanked the official for NATO's support in the reform of the security and defense sector.
Eugen Sturza referred to the programs and projects carried out by the Alliance in our country, including the Defense Capability Initiative (DCBI), the Interoperability Platform, the Integrity Consolidation Program (BII), the Individual Action Plan of the Partnership The Republic of Moldova - NATO and the Process of Partnership Revision and Planning (PARP).
"Through these programs, our country has succeeded, over the 24-year partnership with the Alliance, to adjust its legal framework, acquire expertise in developing strategic documents and strengthen its national defense system", said Eugen Sturza.
Also today, the Major General Pedersen met with Igor Cutie, Commander of the National Army.
The two military officials discussed the training of National Army militaries in NATO's educational institutions and multinational exercises.
"All these officers and non-commissioned officers - women and men in uniforms - have learned in NATO's elite schools the best practices from operating theaters around the world and have tested interoperability in international applications", said General Cutie.
At his turn, the deputy chief of the Military Partnership Directorate, SHAPE, appreciated the performance of Moldovan soldiers in the KFOR Operation in Kosovo.
"Moldova contributes significantly to NATO's presence in Kosovo since 2014 (KFOR) and we are very much grateful for this. We are impressed by the professionalism, dedication of the National Army and civilian employees of the Defense Ministry participating in KFOR", said General Pedersen.
The official added that the Alliance is willing to continue the dialogue with the Ministry of Defense on areas of common interest and to cooperate on the basis of the successes it has achieved.
Note that the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Military Partnership Directorate, SHAPE, is in the Republic of Moldova on August 21-23, at the invitation of the National Army commander.
The official has planned visits to military units and public lessons for civilian and military employees of the Ministry of Defense.
