The Government has endorsed a loan from the European Investment Bank to revamp Moldova’s railway infrastructure.
The accord was signed in September 2016 and provides for disbursing EUR50 million.
11 diesel locomotives will be bought to carry both passengers and goods. In addition, a part of the money will be used to repair a series of railway segments.
The authorities want to use the money to make more efficient the Moldovan railways so that they are better fit for passengers and boost domestic and international trade.
The loan is to be finally okayed by the Parliament.
