Germany to finance water supply and sanitation profect in Cahul district of Moldova
The Ministry of Construction and Regional Development, the South Regional Development Agency, the Cahul Council and the regional enterprise Apa-Canal signed a Memorandum of understanding for implementing the project “Water Supply and Sanitation System in Cahul Raion”, Infotag informs.
According to the KfW Development Bank of Germany, which launched the project, it implies rehabilitation of the water supply and sanitation infrastructure in Cahul, including the building of a new waste water treatment station, modernization and extension of the potable water treatment plant, as well as repairing of water supply and sanitation networks. At the first stage, 48 thousand people will be beneficiaries of the project.
The project is financed by the German Ministry of Development and European Cooperation and is implemented with the assistance of the KfW. The feasibility study will be conducted by the Austrian company Posch & Partners Consulting Engineers and the German MACS Management & Consulting Services.
The KfW is a Development Bank of German Government, leader of the country’s banking sector and one of the Europe’s largest banks. It is present in Moldova since 1999, mainly in the segment of social infrastructure. The German Government undertook to provide grant worth 28.5 million lei for financing two projects concerning central and southern regions of Moldova, where the water supply is based mainly on underground resources, difficult in terms of quality and quantity, while many localities are not connected to the water supply and sanitation at all.
