Government approves inauguration of National Census Commission
The government has approved to create the National Census Commission as well as passed its nominal composition and regulation.
The new structure will ensure the development of the general agricultural census and population & housing census and, the World Round 2020.
The main tasks include: determining the period for making censuses, setting up technical committees, examining draft legislative and normative acts on the organization and execution of censuses, examining budgets and funding sources to cover the necessary expenses.
The Commission will be chaired by Prime Minister Pavel Filip and will comprise 17 members, representatives of the institutions with their responsibilities in the field.
Censuses are one of the indispensable data sources for the development, implementation and monitoring of a state's socio-economic development policies and programs.
According to UN recommendations, the censuses are held every ten years. In 2010, the Republic of Moldova conducted the General Agricultural Census in 2011 and the Population and Housing Census in 2014.
