Doctors and the medical staff will be protected against physical, psychological and verbal abuse. Hooliganism acts committed in a medical institution or on its territory will be fined to 67 500 lei or to a 5 year sentence. The changes to the law were approved today by the Government, to exclude cases when human rights are breached. Over the past years, multiple cases were registered when the medical staff was abused, while recently a doctor was beaten by the husband of a deceased patient.
The changes also foresees introduction of punishment for promoting suicide, including through social media. Therefore, people who will share on the internet messages supporting suicide will have to perform to 240 hours of unpaid community service or spend to 4 years in jail.
At the same time, persons who violated intellectual property rights will be released from any criminal responsibility if they will contribute to the discovery of the crime and will repair the caused damage. Unauthorized use of copyright is also increasing, especially on the internet, where many illegal programs for computers, games, video and audio files and shared.
The changes also foresee exclusion of criminal penalties for economic agents who will collaborate with employees of the Competition Council to detect breaches in competition law.
Another change is the inclusion of penal punishment for cruelty to animals. People who will commit such crimes risk a fine to 37 500 lei, 100 to 180 hours of unpaid community service, or a one year sentence. At the moment, cruelty to animals is punished only by a fine to 3 600 lei.
