Hundreds of medical students step up to fight coronavirus pandemic
Over 250 students of the University of Medicine have volunteered their services to support the fight against the coronavirus pandemic.
Chiriac Domna, a first-year student in General Medicine, came forward to offer her help at the COVID-19 Sorting Center along with 25 other colleagues.
"My parents strongly support me now although they were skeptical at first. They respected my decision to become a doctor, and a doctor must sacrifice himself to save others", Chiriac Domna told Publika.
She is also very aware of the fact that she could contract the virus herself, but this fact doesn't bother her.
"I'm not apprehensive as I know we need to help. If not us, then who else?", the young girl assertively said.
Gheorghe Buruiană, the President of the Association of Medical Students and Residents, said he was quite skeptical at first about the number of students who would get involved in such voluntary actions.
"There were only seven students who wanted to volunteer, but more and more students started joining. They are students who want to change something, to make a better life", Gheorghe Buruiană mentioned.
Some volunteers from the University of Medicine also work at the Hospital for Infectious Diseases for Children, while others respond to calls at the ANSP Green Line.
