Law on casino: A Parliament official obliged to return state budget six million lei
The General Prosecutor's Office announces positive developments in the criminal file regarding the falsifications introduced in public documents by an official of the Parliament, which caused a damage of about six million lei for the state budget.
Specifically, the changes made in the law had the effect of halving the cost of maintaining the casinos for a period of half a year. Thus, based on the evidence accumulated, just over twenty days after the notification submitted by the Parliament, the General Prosecutor's Office initiated a criminal case and brought the civil servant to justice.
Even though the official escaped punishment in 2015 by the court decision, prosecutors appealed the decision, and the case was remanded twice for re-examination. Therefore, in September 2019, the parliamentary official was obliged to return in the state budget the amount of about six million lei - considerable damages resulting from the overcoming of the official's duties. Although the sentence is enforceable, he has the right to appeal it to the Supreme Court of Justice, according to the law.
