Lawyer: Vlad Plahotniuc case is a political one
The case targeting Vlad Plahotniuc is a political one, made at the request of the people leading the country. This is the opinion of the lawyer of the Democratic Party of Moldova's former president after several accusations leveled against his client in the last few days.
In a press release, the lawyer Lucian Rogac also mentions that these accusations are made during the pre-election period, in order to distract the society from the real problems in Moldova. Vlad Plahotniuc's lawyer further claims that the accusations are unfounded and cannot be proven due to lack of evidence.
Meanwhile, the statements made by the political actors are an attempt to put pressure on the law enforcement officers, the lawyer said. In these conditions, Vlad Plahotniuc wants to have a fair, impartial process, not to be influenced by politicians. The former PDM leader is under two arrest warrants.
The first preventive measure was issued in October last year. Vlad Plahotniuc is accused in a criminal case for money laundering in particularly large proportions.
Last week, the Chisinau Court issued a warrant for a 30-day arrest of Plahotniuc for the creation of a criminal organization, fraud and money laundering, both committed in particularly large proportions. Vlad Plahotniuc left Moldova in June last year and pleads not guilty.
