Man tried to forcefully cross the border and smuggle drugs while high on cocaine
The first big drug case this year was registered at the borders between Moldova and Romania. A citizen of Romania is documented for attempting to smuggle 4.01 gr of cocaine.
Therefore, customs officers from Leușeni were alerted of a suspect who intended to enter Republic of Moldova, by breaking the law. The 32-year-old Romanian, resident of Constanța, approached the borders of Republic of Moldova, driving an Audi Q 5 car and attempted to forcefully cross the border, without stopping for control. Customs officers from Leușeni have immediately responded and stopped the vehicle.
At the inspectors' demands, the man presented all documents for authorized entrance in the country. Additionally to the documents, the man was searched and tested for drug consumption, due to his strange behavior. Therefore, law enforcement managed to find five packages containing white powder, similar to cocaine. The test has also shown that the man was high.
During questionings, the citizens was unable to say where the drugs came from, or his reasons for wishing to pass the borders.
The packages were confiscated and sent to the laboratory, in order to confirm the officers' suspicions regarding the nature of the powder.
At the moment, the suspect is in custody and investigated by Hâncești Prosecutor's Office.
If found guilty, the man risks 7 to 15 years of imprisonment, with certain restriction for 2 to 5 years.
