(UPDATE 3:25 p.m.) London's Metropolitan Police have confirmed six deaths following a huge blaze that's engulfed a residential apartment block in West London. The number is expected to rise and the recovery operation is expected to be complicated and lengthy.

(2:11 p.m.) Six people have been confirmed dead after a huge fire raged through the night at a west London tower block, and police expect that number to rise.

(12:42) Over 30 persons have been hospitalized. 

(11:00) Firefighters are still tackling the blaze at Grenfell Tower in north Kensington, where eyewitnesses reported seeing people trapped inside.

Thirty people are being treated in hospital, says London Ambulance.

Eyewitnesses report seeing people screaming for help amid fears the building could collapse.

The BBC's Andy Moore said the whole 24-storey block had been alight and there were fears the building might collapse.

Residents of 27-storey apartment block in west London have been evacuated after a large fire broke out on the second floor, Euronews reports.

Local media carried reports that some of them were trapped on the roof of the building as 40 fire engines and 200 firefighters tackled the blaze.

The London Fire Brigade said two people received treatment for smoke inhalation whilst city police said that a number of people were being treated for various injuries.

Specialist medical teams were also called into to deal with fire related injuries.

Police have set up a wide cordon around Grenfell Tower, which was built in 1974, as they fear it could collapse.
