Minister Chiril Gaburici spoke with World Bank representatives about progresses registered in implementing Good Roads for Moldova project
Minister of Economy and Infrastructure, Chiril Gaburici, spoke with a team of World Bank, led by World Bank's director to Moldova, Anna Akhalkatsi, about the progresses registered in the implementation of the Good Roads for Moldova project. It foresees for an 80 million USD assistance being offered for the rehabilitation of around 300 km of roads.
"The project is among the Government's priorities. Moreover, it is very important for our settlements, especially due to roads and highways leading to schools, kindergartens and hospitals being repaired. The more roads we will repair, the faster the settlements from Moldova will develop and create better conditions for our citizens" Minister Chiril Gaburici said.
During the meeting, the parties spoke of the actions taken since signing the Financing Agreement, in April 2016, to this moment. At the same time, officials discussed measures to mobilize companies that won international tenders for road reconstruction works, as well as how to speed up the process to evaluate funds dedicated to roads rehabilitation in Republic of Moldova.
World Bank representatives reiterated that the team implementing the project is willing to offer the necessary support to train and prepare local road construction companies, for this knowledge to then be used to rehabilitate the roads, within the Good Roads for Moldova project. Minister Chiril Gaburici greeted World Bank's initiate and claimed that Ministry of Economy and Infrastructure is interested in motivating companies from Republic of Moldova to apply to the announced tenders.
"The implication of local companies mean more jobs for our citizens, as well as more experience in the field" Chiril Gaburici said.
The road rehabilitation works through Good Roads for Moldova project are performed by the State Road Administration, under the supervision of the Ministry of Economy and Infrastructure.
