Minister Tudor Ulianovschi spoke of latest developments with Transnistria at the Chatham House
Latest developments with Transnistria and efforts of national authorities to solve the conflict, based on the principle of Republic of Moldova's territorial sovereignty and integrity, were the main topics discussed by Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Tudor Ulianovschi, at the Chatham House, attended by diplomatic corps accredited in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, politicians, businessmen, journalists and representatives of civil society from England.
Presenting the latest developments in solving the conflict, Minister Tudor Ulianovschi mentioned that the latest reunion in the 5+2 format at Berlin, Vienna and Rome registered substantial progresses in promoting measures to build trust between the two regions.
"I will invoke the six protocol decisions regarding opening of a bridge over the Dniester, from Gura Bâcului – Bâcioc, ensuring the proper functioning of schools from Transnistria that teach using the Latin alphabet, recognition of diplomas from Tiraspol, restoring the telephone connection between the two regions, ensuring access to farmers from Dubăsari to their lands located over Tiraspol-Râbniţa highway, admission to international road traffic of cars from Transnistria, which, in the end, allowed us to take a step forward in that direction" Minister Tudor Ulianovschi said.
Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration expressed his hopes that Italy's OSCE Chairmanship this year will contribute to a positive development, including free movement of goods, capital, services, and labor between the two regions.
"At the same time, I have to admit that the Republic of Moldova remains an extremely vulnerable country in the context of the hybrid war from the region, given my country's traditional dependence of Russia's energy resources and trade with that country. We hope that in the near future, we will be able to diversify our energy sources and assert ourselves on the new markets, especially on the European market", said Tudor Ulianovschi.
Referring to the development project regarding withdrawing the foreign soldiers from the Republic of Moldova's territory, the Minister of Foreign Affairs highlighted a new project based on some commitments made by the Russian Federation, according to which, the Republic of Moldova needs to be supported by the UN member countries. At the same time, the officials discussed about the international right principles and confirmed their solidarity to Moldova.
Within the dialogue, the participants asked many questions about the Transnistria project and Ukraine's impact on the European and national security. Some questions refereed to the political condition of the Republic of Moldova and the parliamentary elections that will occur this autumn.
