The Ministry of Health approved the new menu for preschoolers and students. It will be introduced in all schools and kindergartens of the country from September 1st.
The menu contains many fruits and vegetables, rich in nutrients but also foods for sick, obese and allergic minors.
The Ministry of Health will monitor the menu monthly. Subsequently, the document will be completed with parents and experts ideas.
"This working group will meet next time in January 2017. Then we will reevaluate points that could have not be included today. And will developed further regular reports on implementation from September to January" , said Minister of Health Ruxandra Glavan.
In the future, parents want the replace of the tomato purée and elimination of yeast from the diet. They also opt to reduce cheese, meat and fish portions.
Doctors are categorically against reducing the amount of meat.
"Some population groups in northern region consumed by 500 grams of meat and didn’t die. You must take into account the reality of this area. This includes all features of this area", said academician Nicolae Opopol.
Parents also require whole foods, minimally processed.
"The reason is that whole products have short life, oxidize easily and are very expensive. Businesses experience the problem of not being able to import these products whever necessary" , said the head of department CNSP Mariana Tutunaru.
The menu is part of the new rule on healthy diet and physical activity in schools, developed by the Ministry of Health along with World Health Organisation experts and parents.
