Modernization opportunities of penitentiary system discussed with representatives of US Embassy
The penitentiary system will be more modern. Anatolie Munteanu, the state secretary and Aureliu Suhan, the interim of the Penitentiary Institutions Department met the representatives of US Embassy to Republic of Moldova. The Justice Ministry investigates the best practices of this sphere.
Anatolie Munteanu talked about the actual condition of the penitentiary institutions and mentioned that the penitentiary system is an old one and it should be changed.
"Presently, the security of surveillance of the defendants takes the human resources in such a way that those don't permit to concentrate the efforts that will register changes. The penitentiary system wasn't discussed by the state departments for a long period", said State general Secretary.
At the same time, there was mentioned the they want to change the public opinion about the defendants. In this context, they decided to train the stuff.
At the present moment, the in-service training of prison staff is provided by the Inception Center of the DIP, but the training program requires a fundamental remodeling. It was mentioned the possibility of cooperation on the basis of a possible project implemented by the US Embassy in Moldova.
