Moldova shuts down airspace to prevent spread of coronavirus
As of today, all flights with Italy, Spain and France are cancelled after midnight flights with Austria, Belgium, Czech, Cyprus, Germany, Ireland, the United Kingdom, Poland, Portugal and Romania will be canceled. Moldova decides to close its airspace to prevent coronavirus from spreading.
The decision was taken on Sunday, at the meeting of the Extraordinary National Commission for Public Health. Prime Minister Ion Chicu said that since March 17, foreigners will not be able to cross the country's land borders with the exception of diplomats, Moldovan residence-card holders and goods importer.
The decision is valid until March 31, with the possibility of extension.
The authorities also announced that currently only 17 of the 81 border crossing points remain open: 11 from the border with Ukraine and eight from the border with Romania.
