Moldovan Ambassador Cristina Balan: Moldova's image shaped in the United States
Within an event named Career, Conversation, Culture held by the Moldovan Embassy to the U.S., the Moldovan Ambassador Cristina Balan led a discussion with President of Women’s Diplomatic Series Laura Elsey.
The event was organized at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace (CEIP), a foreign-policy think tank in Washington D.C.
This event is part of series of actions to combine culture promotion with public diplomacy. Its purpose is to promote identity of the Republic of Moldova in Washington.
It includes a recital by violinist Elise Blake, interpreting the play The Lonely Shepherd by Moldovan master Constantin Moscovici; gallery of Moldovan artist where art work of Ambassador Cristina Balan was also displayed.
"Event Career, Conversation, Culture is a multi-dimensional platform of communication between Embassy of Moldova and the U.S. as well as American partners. Since the beginning of my mandate, I talked with Embassy team to take every chance to promote our country constructively and positively.
Our community in Washington D.C. marks our effort and proves that we are omnipresent. I'm happy with this perception and I hope that our people to feel positive effect resulting from our efforts.
The Republic of Moldova starts to be known in the U.S., which boosts bilateral relations politically, economically, socially, culturally as well as in other domains of education and tourism", declared Cristina Balan.
Cristina Balan also discussed with invitees Moldova's history, cultures, traditions as well as her ambition is to represent her country.
Concerning the dialogue with President of Women’s Diplomatic Series Laura Elsey, the officials mentioned topics about women in leadership. Ambassador Cristina Balan reiterated the fact that "Moldovan Embassy to the U.S. is the first mission which is involved successfully in promoting women".
Cristina Balan was designated as Ambassador of the Republic of Moldova in Washington last year, being the first woman in Eastern Partnership countries to serve this position.
