Moldovan authorities' war on drugs
The Moldovan authorities are waging a war on drugs. The police aim to sharply reduce the cases of narcotics smuggled over Moldova’s territory. 1.060 related lawsuits have been started this year.
According to the data of the Interior Ministry, 41 criminal gangs have been dismantled, as 670 people have been detained.
As many as 151 kg of drugs, such as marijuana, poppy straws and hashish, have been confiscated, that’s half less than last year. The value of the sequestered narcotics rises to over 22 million lei.
The Interior Ministry’s data show Moldova is a destination for heroin and ecstasy-type pills. The heroin is brought from Turkey through Bulgaria, Romania or Ukraine, as the pills are brought in from the Netherlands and France.
Moldova is a transit territory for the hashish smuggled from Spain to Russia.
