Private hospitals in Moldova are not ready to provide assistance to public medical institutions in the fight against COVID-19. By a decision of the Extraordinary Public Health Commission of Chisinau, the authorities requested the transfer of medical staff and the allocation of artificial ventilation devices. In an official statement, the Union of Private Medical Institutions of Moldova claims that this is impossible, because they could not continue their activity.

On October 11, the Extraordinary Public Health Commission issued a decision requesting the inclusion of private hospitals in the list of institutions providing medical care to COVID-19 patients. The decision also states that private hospitals need to provide with more medical equipment such as: artificial ventilation devices or oxygen generators.

"During this period of spread of the virus, it is impossible for secondment of staff because of the inability to ensure the continuity of activity in such conditions," according to the statement. However, they mention that private hospitals are willing to take other medical emergencies, which the state ones cannot perform now, in the conditions of the pandemic.

Also, one of the hospitals was willing to provide some necessary equipment.
Chisinnau Deputy Mayor on health issues, Angela Cutasevici, did not answer the phone to comment on the decision taken by private institutions. The Union of Private Medical Institutions of Moldova was established in 2014. It includes 12 hospitals.
