Moldovan woman sentenced to 16 years in jail for sex trafficking
A woman from Ialoveni was sentenced to 16 years in prison and forced to pay for the state legal costs related to her extradition, in the amount of 33 thousand lei. The verdict was issued after the Chisinau Prosecutor's Office proved her guilt in committing human and child trafficking.
According to prosecutors, between 2014 and 2016, she lured seven young people from socially vulnerable families including a minor and took them to Turkey for sex trade.
They were forced daily to work as prostitutes in an apartment in Istanbul but only received a tiny part of the income.
Returning home, the victims filed complaints and criminal cases were initiated.
The accused was detained last year in Greece after being announced by the Moldovan authorities in international search for human trafficking. At the request of Moldovan prosecutors, she was extradited, deferred to justice and brought to criminal liability in Moldova.
