Moldovans are traveling more and more and prefer to travel by public transport
According to data presented by the National Bureau of Statistics, in January-December 2019, about 103 million passengers traveled, 0.8% more than in the same period of 2018.
According to statistics, most Moldovans traveled by buses and minibuses, 97.2 percent, followed by air transport (1.5%) and rail transport (1.1%).
In January-December 2019 the railway, road, river and air transport companies transported 18.9 million tonnes of goods, a volume lower than that registered in the similar period of 2018 by 3.7%.
In January-December 2019 the road transport companies transported 14.5 million tons of goods, 0.4% less than the corresponding period of the previous year.
Considerable weights in the total volume of goods transported by road transport belong to the enterprises from Chisinau municipality (39.6%), the development regions Centru (31.1%), North (21.1%), South (5.2%) and UTA Gagauzia (3.0%).
With the means of rail transport in January-December 2019, 4.3 million tons of goods were transported, or 13.6% less than in the same period of 2018.
