An impressive volume of about 100 tons of postal parcels destined for Moldova remained blocked abroad due to the suspension of flights in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. The state-owned enterprise "Posta Moldovei" announces that postal activity worldwide has been blocked since air traffic was suspended.
According to the company, the largest volume of blocked postal items is recorded in China, nearly 43 tons. Germany is next with almost 11 tons.In Singapore and the Netherlands the volume of blocked parcels is almost identical, around five tonnes each. Fewer postal items are blocked in Turkey and the United Kingdom, with a volume of almost four tons and just over three tons, respectively.
"Posta Moldovei" states that some charter flights do not accept postal parcels on board, as they are intended only for passenger transport. Another reason would be the lack of a post office at the take-off airport. At present, "Posta Moldovei" receives parcels and letters by land from neighboring countries, Romania and Ukraine.
At the same time, in the "Post Office of Moldova" offices there are over 6 thousand postal items that are to be picked up by the beneficiaries. If they are not picked up within the set deadline, the packages will be returned to the shippers
